How to Create Multiple Income Streams for your Business.

You might be thinking that creating multiple streams of income is something that only those who want to reach 7-figures need to do. That it isn’t right for your business. But let me ask you this.

Do you want to work with more clients but there doesn’t seem to be enough time?

Or have you heard you should create a marketing funnel for your business?

Creating multiple income streams helps you to open your business to reach a greater audience. When created correctly, you can help walk your clients through your funnel. Creating different types of products is the simplest way to help you create multiple income streams. Here are a few products you can create to get you started.

Self-Pace / Do-It-Yourself Course

Utilize technology to provide a self-paced / DIY course. This can be something simple that you create using audios and PDFs through email delivery or a more complex course site product that incorporates videos, autoresponders, pdfs and a forum. Your product must be targeted to the needs of those who will buy the product. Not sure what to offer them? Survey your list or online communities of your ideal clients to see what their pain is and what their needs are. Create your product based upon those needs.

Group Coaching Program

Creating a group coaching program allows you to serve and help more clients at once. Create a course that is extremely targeted to a specific need. Is there a topic that continues to come up with private clients that you can help tackle and solve with more in a group course? Generally you charge less than you do for private work because you are leveraging your time in a group. This also gives more people the opportunity to be able to afford your rockstar services. You can include 1:1 time with you in this course if you choose, just be sure to factor in your private time into the cost of the course.

Joint Venture Product

Joining forces with another kick-ass-preneur in creating a product is a fabulous way to add another income stream to your list of products. This also helps you reach a new audience. Consider someone in your field that you can partner up with. Or find someone who teaches something you don’t offer to create a product with your two super powers. Some examples are:

life coach + business coach = awesomeness

copywriter + video guru = awesomeness

Be creative and innovative in what you offer. Don’t know of anyone off-hand? Cruise around your social networks and social groups you are active on to see who you could partner with!

Leave a Comment Do you have multiple streams already? What is your fav? OR are you now going to be adding them to your business? Leave me a comment and let me know!

Creating Your Promotional Strategy for Your Launch

Creating Your Promotional Strategy for Your LaunchI hear a lot of online-preneurs say that they created a product, launched it once, and it didn’t work.

They then flag it as a failure in their business and give up on the idea of having multiple income streams.

Launching a new product isn’t just about “putting it out there” with a few social post on Facebook. It’s about creating a promotional strategy and executing it.

First, let’s talk some about what not to do, I still see many making these common mistakes.

Sending private messages on social media about your launch event – HUGE No! No! Quickest way to be considered a social spammer.

Using the invite all feature on social media events. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. Event pages come with their own custom URL. Use this to encourage people to sign up. My event notifications are out of control and unmanagmable because so many abuse this option on Facebook.

Posting your launch / event in groups you are not active in. Groups are a fabulous tool to meet and connect with fellow online-preneurs. Now that Facebook has created the suggested groups feature, groups are growing by leaps and bounds with new members. Don’t be the person that just posts about your offerings, make sure you are truly connecting and talking to people in the group! This is a great tool when used the right way!

Now that you know what not to do, let’s talk about what you should be doing!

Your Hollywood Inspired Launch
I love movies. Hollywood. The excitement it draws in when promoting a new Hollywood Blockbuster. I want you to pretend your promotional strategy is to launch the next online blockbuster with your product!

Launches are about generating buzz, excitement, and urgency. Your promotional strategy is what helps create the buzz & excitement.

The Preview
When a production company starts promoting their latest movie creation, they begin with releasing the preview or trailer of the movie. They use their previews to create buzz and excitement about their upcoming movie release.

Your launch should have some type of preview, a taste of what your product is. You can create a mini-course that gets them excited about what’s next {which is joining your program}.

After all, isn’t that what a preview of a movie is doing, getting you to come back to the theater to watch the full movie?

The Distribution
Once they have their previews ready, they work on the distribution of the preview and getting it in front of their ideal customer’s eyes.

When creating your promotional strategy, you want to get your information in front of the maximum number of eyes from your potential buyers.

Actors must travel around doing different television, radio and other media interviews to promote their movie. Doing everything they can to create buzz.

Line up Interviews everywhere that you know your ideal clients are hanging out at. Pitch topic ideas that relate to your product. Do guest blog posts with the same idea. Have topics ready that relate to the audience of the blog but also tie into your product launch. Create your own Online Press Junket Day during your launch!

Promotional Partners
When you go to the movies and watch a movie, you see a preview of other movies because generally, you are the ideal customer to come back and watch that movie.

Find affiliates who will be promotional partners to help you promote your launch. Give them incentive by offering a referral fee for everyone that signs up for your program from them. These affiliates might be a fabulous resource for interviews and guest blog post too… Keep that in mind when working on your strategy and how you reach out to each one personally.

Your Premier Event
Host your premier event online. It’s like your launch party. Give your Big Premier the red carpet treatment for your attendees. With technology at our finger tips, you can reach people all over the world with online events. Host your premier using a service that offers livestream { Spreecast } or one that offers screen sharing for a presentation webinar { Go to My Webinar }.

Your premier is where you can leverage urgency. Invite everyone to your event where you do a live training demo or where you launch at the end. You can give them special offering or pricing with a deadline.

Now that you have an idea how to set up your promotional strategy for your launch, you can begin to plan out and make a list of who you will reach out to for your next launch.

Best Photo Editing Apps for Your Smartphone

Did you know that some of the most shared, viral images were created from smartphone picture editing apps? Learn the best apps available to help you enhance all of your social imagery.

Using online photo editing programs is quick and easy but using your smart phone is faster and easier to do. It also allows for you to create awesome graphics on the go for your social campaigns. We are in an Insta-Society and our smart phones give us the platform to take the photo, edit it immediately, and then share it. Insta-quick.

You can use these apps to create images from scratch or to edit pictures that you’ve taken with filters, texts, and other graphics.

Before a big launch or when planning out your social media plan for the month, look around your every day life to see what you can use in your social promotion.

Stop feeling overwhelmed and just get out there and do it!

Have you ever seen someone’s edited photo and wondered what apps they used?

This post is just for you. I have compiled a rather large list of different apps that you can use to edit your images on-the-go!

Use the apps to add text to your images like #hashtags or your website url for your business.

A Beautiful Mess
This is one of my newest fav apps. It comes in a free version and paid. It allows you to add on text, images, borders and filters. It is from the bloggers of A Beautiful Mess.

PicPlayPost
Have you seen people posting videos where there are two or three different videos in frames? THIS is the app baby! You can combine different videos into ONE using this app! You can also combine multiple pictures into one with this!

Over
Over is a quick app that allows you to add text over your images. There really isn’t much to talk about with this app, it’s quick, simple, and pretty self explanatory.

PicLab PhotoEditor
Another awesome photo editing program with different filters and text features.

Square Ready
If you are planning on posting the image on Instagram or your Facebook page, use Square Ready to crop the image before editing it. With the new iPhone update, I almost always shoot my images in Square mode because this prevents me from losing part of the image because of the square crop. This app helps those who are not on an iPhone or for those who didn’t shoot in square mode.

Pixlromatic
Another cool app that lets you edit your images by adding cool filters, lens light, and so much more. You can use this app on the web or download it straight to your smartphone.

Line Camera
One more photo editing app that includes filters, stamps, borders, and more!

Phonto
A simple app that allows you to add many different types of text to your images.

Filterstorm
Screen Shot 2013-07-21 at 8.57.52 PM
This is a fierce photo editing tool. You can adjust photos like you can with expensive desktop applications. A great feature of the tool is that it allows you to save a series of edits under automation.

Lenslight
The name of the app is what the app does. Using Lenslight, you can add in different lights to your image from adding in sun glares to bokeh and surface glares.

Masking Tape
Another app that’s name gives it away as to what it does. You can add fun and creative tapes paired with text to your images for an artistic look.

tiltshiftTilt Shift Generator
This is a great app for city scapes. A super fun app that allows you to apply many ToyCamera effects to your images. It gives your pictures a miniature look!

PicFrame
Want to post a picture that has more than one picture on it? Use PicFrame to frame out one or many images with this app.

FlipAGram
A picture montage with a video element and pair it to music! THIS is my favorite. LOVE it.

Afterlight
Create cutouts of your images with shapes like circles, hearts, and triangles. This one also has filter features for your images.

Incredibooth
An incredibly fun app, pretend your smartphone is an old-school photo booth! Be the life of the party or live event with Incredibooth.

Camera Timer
One advantage digital and film cameras have always had over smartphones is their ability to delay a picture. Now here is an app perfect to delay a picture being snapped. Set the timer on this app and pose!

Bonus Tip
Here are two apps that you can use to add your logo or a watermark to your social images for brand recognition. Use either Watermark It Pro & iWatermark once you have your images designed and ready for upload. Run them through these apps to finalize with your logo!

Gimp

Gimp is another program that is similar to Pixlr in how it is laid out like Photoshop only this program downloads to your computer system, rather than being an online program.

How to Spring Clean your Business { so you can make room for more new business }

How to Spring Clean your BusinessIt is that time of year when you spring clean your house from top to bottom!  We clean out closets, getting rid of the old to bring in the new, wiping everything down to make it shine, and reorganizing.

But how much time do you spend cleaning out your computer, website or social networks?

Here are a couple tips and tools to tidy things up!

Your gadgets

  • Did you know that your smart phone is dirtier than a toilet seat? GROSS! Clean that baby, front and back, using a microfiber cloth with some rubbing alcohol on it. I also recommend throwing that microfiber cloth in the washing machine after cleaning your dirty, nasty smart phone.
  • Have apps you haven’t opened in months? Delete any apps that you are not using. Any that you have purchased will be saved in the Cloud on your account so you can download again if you ever need it again.
  • Make sure your Operating System and any other apps are up to date on all of your gadgets.
  • Transfer and backup your images and videos to Dropbox so you never have to worry about losing them. This also helps free up space on your all of your devices.

Your computer

  • Before you clean the inside, make sure to clean your keyboard, mouse, and go ahead and wipe down that phone! You really should do this weekly…
  • Spring clean your files by going through them and clearing out what you have that you no longer need.  Are you biting your nails at the thought of hitting delete on files?  Create a folder and move the files there, if you don’t need them for 6 months to a year (whatever you feel comfortable with) delete the folder!
  • Are you running tight on space?  Do you have a virtual team?  Then consider using Dropbox to store files online and easily share folders with your Virtual Assistant.  Dropbox is the easiest way to save, sync, and share files online.
  • Make sure all of your software programs are all updated with the latest version.  This is crucial in keeping everything running smoothly.  However, check compatibility  if you purchase any updates.
  • If you no longer use a software program, uninstall it! I have downloaded programs specific for clients or projects and then I no longer need them.  This is a quick and easy way to free up some space.
  • Unsubscribe!!!! Clean up your email easily by unsubscribing to those ezines and people that you don’t read!  Its a waste of time to continuously delete emails that you are NEVER going to read.  There is an unsubscribe button for a reason, use it. { Just make sure you stay on my list so you don’t miss a thang! :) }
  • Update all of your forms or documents that you use for your business.  Do you have a Welcome Packet that you send to clients when they sign up?  Make sure you look over these types of documents at least once a year to be sure they have accurate information in them.

Your website

  • Go through all of your pages and content and take an inventory of what you have. If you have old pages up or content that refers to programs that are over, remove it!  A huge mistake entrepreneurs make with their website is leaving old and outdated information up!  This is just as tacky as leaving your Christmas lights up until Easter.
  • If you are running off WordPress, make sure all of your plugins are up-to-date along with your theme. If you still are running an HTML website, look into switching to WordPress.  Staying current with the latest technology can be overwhelming but switching to WordPress is essential for your online presence.  Plus, it allows you to do ALL of your content updates yourself without having to depend on your website designer.
  • Update your testimonials and ask for new ones! This is a great time to update your testimonials on your site.  This is your social proof of how much you rock!  Make sure that you have current testimonials from new clients!
  • Update your headshots and images on your website. While you are cleaning things up, why not get new, fresh images to add to your website.  (be on the lookout for mine… they are coming soon!!)
  • Make sure you have social networking links on your site. Don’t be left out in the dust!  This is a quick fix to your website.  Do a Google search for free social media icons and link them to your social network pages!

Your social networks

  • Go through your bios and about sections on ALL of your social networks and make sure they are updated.  Don’t neglect this area!  Make sure that your information is current and up-to-date.
  • Clean up what friends show up in your news feeds.  We cannot control what people post online as their status updates but we can control if we see it or not.  Lately, I have been cleaning up my news feed by hiding those who post negative comments or anything that might take away from my energy while I am online.
  • Clean up Twitter by creating list to keep track of your tweeps (twitter peeps) and unfollow those you no longer wish to follow or those who are not following you back.  There are several tools out there to help you with this process.  You can use Untweeps to unfollow those who don’t tweet enough or you can try ManageFlitter too.
  • Clean up Pinterest make sure your pins on all of your boards are still valid. Check links and delete any pins that don’t make sense, are invalid, or no longer work.
  • Maximize  your social online presence with an updated Twitter background, Facebook profile images, and a custom landing page to capture email addresses on your Facebook Page.

And don’t forget about…
Your filing drawers or your vision board.  While you are clearing away the clutter with your computer, make sure to do it in the office too!

  • Update your vision board with new visions, goals, and key words that will inspire you the rest of the year.
  • Box up taxes from 3 years ago and store them outside of the office.
  • Clean up client files just like you did on your computer.

When you clean out the space where the old was, it allows for clear space for the new to come in! These are just a few suggestions to tidy things up!

9 Tips for Product Launch Success

You’re an entrepreneur. You’ve got an amazing product that’s going to open minds, change lives, and increase your bottom line.

But how does a whip smart, strong-hearted entrepreneur go about launching that life-changing product?

I’ve got 9 Tips to help you create a product launch that is successful.

Do you have a Winning Offer?

A winning offer is something that matches the needs of your ideal customer. It’s a product or service that they cannot live another day without. An offer so delicious that they push everyone out of their way to get the credit card.

Find out if you have a winning offer by starting with your past customers and clients. They are likely your ideal customer since you’ve already worked with them. Survey them, get on the phone for a 15-minute call, or reach out to your private groups on Facebook. Find out if your product or program solves their pain points.

Set Your Launch Goals

I cannot stress enough how important this step is. Make sure you are clear on your goals for your launch. You will want to think about the number of affiliates you want marketing your product, how many new email subscribers you want to come into your marketing funnel, and how many of those subscribers you want to convert into customers.

Success is steady progress toward one’s personal goals. Jim Rohn

I cannot tell you what success will mean to your launch but setting goals will help you step into the right direction towards them.

Make Time for your Launch

Now that you know your goals, you need to make time for your launch in your schedule. A launch is an intensive process and you must make time for it to execute it to make it successful.

Plan Out Every Step

In order to really know the time that you have to dedicate into the launch, you want to make sure you that plan out every step of the process. Every email, every social post, and every blog post you are going to use to market your program. Grab a big wall calendar or desk calendar to map out when your content will drip.

Leverage every aspect of launching. Don’t leave any stone unturned.

A Clear Message

We know that a confused buyer does not whip out their credit card. Be sure that every piece of content involved in your launch has a crystal clear message that leads your potential customers to your marketing funnel.

Launch Marketing Funnel

Do not skip over this piece of the puzzle because you think that you do not need to sell. If you feel that people are not buying from you, did you ever consider your not really selling them? Selling them on exactly why they cannot live without your goodies?! Setting up a marketing funnel that allows for you to sell to them will help increase your launch success.

Timing is Everything

Does the timing fit the need of your client? This could make or break the success of your launch. Trying to sell to your ideal client while they are on vacation or holiday is obviously not going to work. Make sure your launch timing aligns with your customers needs. { We are working on Leverage the Launch now so that our customers can launch this fall! The fall is a hot time for people to launch because everyone is getting back into business. }

Be Prepared for Success

Put yourself in the mindset of making this launch work. And know that you will not stop selling until it is full. Again, success looks differently for everyone. No two launches are a like and no two ideas of success are the same. Fully own your success and what it means to you. You’ve got this and are going to rock it out.

Like Nike said… Just Do It.

Yes. There is no amount of advice or knowledge that can make it happen for you. You’ve just got to do it. Put it out there. Make it happen. Take your first step’s into making this idea become a product that you create a bad-ass launch for by clicking the image below or signing up for the Success Academy to learn how to Leverage the Launch.

The Startup Business Guide to Branding

SONY DSCAs owner of your own business, you’re responsible for making your business stand out in the crowd. Great products, superior customer service and good pricing will help your efforts, but branding and marketing are necessary to build awareness and generate buzz. Let 2014 be the year you step up your branding efforts.

The Logo

Everything starts with the logo. This visual representation of your business needs to catch potential customers’ eyes while conveying what your business is about. It might seem like a simple part of the marketing equation, but it’s harder to get right than you may think. Inc.com recommends creating your logo with an eye for versatility. You want a logo that works in a variety of marketing mediums, such as online, direct mail and banners.

One of the best ways to future-proof your logo is to have the designers create it as a vector. This enables you to resize it without degrading the quality. Additionally, make sure your logo works well in black and white as well as full color. If you plan on designing your own logo, choose colors that work well in print as well as on screen, and familiarize yourself with the common meanings behind a variety of colors. I also love Design Seeds for finding awesome color combinations for your branding as well.

Additional Branding

The most important thing is to always treat your logo with the utmost respect. You don’t want to put your logo on anything your business doesn’t support fully, and you also want it to be as high-quality as possible. Make sure you look at your marketing material before you send it out into the world so you are sure that it conveys exactly the message you want it to convey to your customers and potential clients. For more tips about what to do after your logo is out in the wild, visit LogoMojo.com.

Effective Marketing

Multi-channel marketing—where your marketing efforts and dollars are spent across many venues—is a common tactic in branding and advertising. Use social networks, your website and ecommerce store, online advertising space and direct marketing as part of your overall branding strategy. Some of these tactics take mere minutes to get started, such as setting up a Facebook page for business.

Most importantly, maintain a consistent voice and message across all your marketing channels, and make sure to use your marketing channels to the fullest to build brand recognition.

8 Ways to Maximize your ‘Thank You’ Page

Your ‘Thank You Page’ is the page that people are taken to immediately after signing up for your email marketing list. This is often an overlooked page by business owners, yet this is where you have visitors completely engaged.

They just entered their name and email address and hit the submit button.

They are waiting for their next steps from you.

Take advantage of this post-conversion step and maximize your ‘Thank You’ page.

It is important to get your new subscriber while they are active. Besides including a thank you note with your free gift. Consider some of these options to maximize your ‘Thank You’ page. Do not use all of these option, pick a few to use on the ‘Thank you’ page and add a few others to the ‘Thank You’ email that goes out immediately after subscribing.

1. Set the Expectation

Make sure that your new subscriber is clear on what they just signed up for. Give them the breakdown of what is happening next. Do they need to confirm their email address first? Will they receive an email with their freebies? How often will they hear from you? How can they receive the freebie they signed up for? Answer all of these questions first.

2. Immediate Download

Can you offer your freebie as an immediate download on your ‘Thank You’ page? This is a great way to get them moving and taking action. If your email marketing list does not require them to confirm their email before being adding, consider using this option. If your email marketing list requires them to confirm, do not offer the freebie up as an immediate download. You want them to first confirm their address in order to receive your freebie.

3. Social Follow Links

While you have the new subscriber engaged, get them to connect with you socially. If you go to my website homepage, you’ll see I don’t actually have any social buttons to connect with me. I utilize my ‘Thank You’ page and email while I have them engaged. I also don’t use buttons that require them to leave my site to connect with me. My main goal of my homepage is to get them on my list! I use widgets that allow people to follow or like me directly within the page. See the image below. Click each social link to create your own code to insert into your ‘Thank You’ page. Facebook Like Button | Twitter Follow Button | Pinterest Follow Button

Screen Shot 2013-10-26 at 9.47.24 PM

4. Client Love or Testimonials

This is a great place to display your best client testimonials for your new subscribers to see how awesome you are! Don’t include all of them, just pick a few of the best to show. Everybody likes to see social proof when they have just found something new!

5. Latest Program Launch

Convert your new subscriber to a paid customer by telling them about your latest program or service launch. Offer them a discount for becoming a new subscriber.

6. Links to Your Best Content

Chances are your new subscriber is just finding out about you and your awesome, so give them links to past blog post that you know will help them. I like to take my most popular ones to share with them. These also contain social proof because they have the most comments and shares. Show them your credibility.

7. Application to a Strategy / Discovery / Consultation Call

You’ve got their attention, get them to apply to chat with you. Meet who they are, help them on something in their business, build their trust, and get them to become a new client. Add a form to the page that has them answer questions to apply for a session with you. Don’t wait days for them to miss your follow-up emails, hook them now.

Extra Awesome Bonus Tip

Consider welcoming your new subscriber with a welcome video that you have on the Thank You Page! You can use this time to mention about what the next steps are to receiving their free gift, encourage them to apply to chat with you, and whatever else you found helpful in today’s blog post to welcome them! Have fun with it!

You can check out exactly what my ‘Thank You’ page looks like by clicking here.

Grow Your Startup Using the Power of Pinterest

Pinterest_logoPinterest is evolving as more than a pinning site for wedding inspiration, recipes and crafting. As of 2012, 25 percent of Fortune Global 100 companies had Pinterest accounts, according to the Burson-Marsteller Global Social Media Check-Up 2012. If you’re launching or growing a startup, leverage the power of Pinterest for marketing, customer engagement and intelligent branding.

Exponential Growth

From 2011 to 2012, Pinterest’s share of all Web visits in North America grew by over 5,000 percent. The platform’s growth in countries like Australia, Hong Kong and the UK was also meteoric, offering companies of all sizes the chance to grow global audiences without the enormous price tag of traditional marketing. Small businesses and startups can partake in Pinterest success as well. Take a chance at an easy marketing win, and share product pictures, videos, how-to articles, or any other type of content that has interesting visual appeal.

Power of Visual Content

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but it’s also worth shares. Pinterest expert Bob Gilbreath studied the site’s public analytics tool to figure out how Pinterest was making such viral strides. He notes that 80 percent of all pins are re-pinned. Unlike other social media sites, exposure goes beyond your follower’s followers. Pins are passed along throughout Pinterest communities and continue to be shared.

The categorized and virtual pinboard layout of Pinterest also helps brands connect with consumers or industries visually and even personally. Pinterest users can develop their own viewing preferences and see pins in a succinct and organized format. Then they gain insight into your business, whether a user wants to be alerted about product updates or a user is drawn to an image associated with a company blog post. For example, the NYC iAcquire Pinterest account shares company photos to express the company’s culture, motivational sayings and SEO tips and tricks for the industry. The digital content marketing company brands itself on Pinterest and provides insight into the world of social media, content strategy and SEO through visual pins.

Consumer-Driving Marketing

Leverage Pinterest for consumer-driven marketing strategies and campaigns. Creating compelling content and images promotes products and services. Socially and digitally share your content, and let consumers take it from there. Online retailer Zappos noticed that users were much more likely to share products on Pinterest than on Twitter or Facebook. While users share good content, you can also include a “Pin This” button on all your webpages, product listings or blog posts. Making $h!t Happen.

Yep, I did it. That’s the blog post’s title. It won’t do much for SEO but I couldn’t think of a better title.

I remember riding on a bus to a high school cheer competition in the 90’s jamming to Mariah Carey’s – Make It Happen and as I was writing this, it started playing in my head. I think you should also listen as you read this week. Think of it as your anthem to making $h!t happen. I have embedded it to make it easy for you!

If you believe in yourself enough And know what you want
You’re gonna make it happen. { Make It Happen }

I hear all the time from people that “I do a lot. I’m everywhere. And how am I doing it all?” And my reply is simple. “I’m making $h!t happen.”

There are things that I should be doing but may not have time at the moment for it. And I am OK with that.

But I am very clear on what I want to be doing and I am doing it. To the best of my ability.

For me, it is easy to take an idea and run with it pretty quickly because I know what needs to be done and the “how” to make $h!t happen. This is crucial.

When entrepreneurs, like yourself, have a new idea that they want to put into play, they often get stopped dead in their tracks because they are clueless what needs to happen. The fizz of the new ideas is suddenly going flat. Booooooo.

Let’s imagine that not happening because you have the ability to see the steps that go into hosting a webinar or launching that new service or product. Imagine knowing you have the exact steps that will walk you through the process with confidence. How would that shift things for you? I bet dramatically!

The reason BIG reason I make $h!t happen.

As simple as it sounds, it is something you have to go into with a plan to leverage.

How do I know all of this? The last 10 years I’ve put my heart and soul into helping others launch and market their businesses.

Here are a few things that I’ve done:

  • Doubled list size in 5 days.
  • Sold Out – multiple 6-figure launches.
  • 1500+ opt-in of video launch promo series.
  • Created a business doing exactly what I love.

And you can do it too.

I want to you to create exactly what you want in your business from anywhere in the world.

I want to you to spread your gift with the world like a wildfire.

And I want to help make it easy for you to do.

Your talented and gifted and the world must know about it.

How to Start to Make $h!t Happen TODAY.

Right now, grab a sheet of paper, for 2-3 minutes I want you to write down things that you can do to move your business forward. Big or small. Anything. Be wild and crazy with what you write down. Just make a list.

Now pick 3 things you can do immediately to push yourself forward.

As something new comes in mind, add it to the list. Make sure this list is hung by your work area, someplace you can see every day. Each day find three things that you can work on to keep moving you forward.

Doing something everyday helps take the overwhelm out of marketing. Tweet that! { click here }

I know it is hard to try to figure all of this out on your own, but know you are not alone.

Harness the Power of #Hashtags for Your Business

harness-the-power-of-hashtags-for-your-businessAre you one of the many who is scared to death of #hashtagging? I’ve put together a post completely dedicated to #hashtags and how to use them for your business. This is one of the easiest social media strategies to implement. They are easy, powerful, and will help you increase your reach just by including them in your posts.

Hashtags were originally created by Twitter but have been adopted to the other main social media sites as a way to organize content.

How to Create a #hashtag

You will be surprised to learn how easy it really is.

When you are creating a post on any of the social sites that accept #hashtags, you’ll simply type the “#” with your hashtag word(s) immediately following.

Screen Shot 2013-09-29 at 8.55.33 PM

Your hashtag:

  • cannot include any spaces between words
  • cannot include punctuation
  • can have caps however, they do not matter and will return the same results
  • can be put anywhere in a post or comment

Be Strategic

Be strategic with your #hashtag use by doing your research ahead of time on what tags you should be using.

Find the right hashtag by researching what other brands in your industry are using.

Create #hashtags based off of locations if you are a local business or hosting an event at a specific location. It is important to use city tags as well as business / event location tags.

Using popular keywords are a great tool for creating hashtags for your business.

Attending an event? Find out what the official hashtag is so that you can meet and connect with everyone else at the event.

Hosting an event? Create a hashtag and make sure to share with attendees ahead of time.

11 Creative Ways to Use Hashtags

  1. Create a Tagboard to stay up to date on specific #hashtags. Stay up to date on what others are posting using specific #hashtags.
  2. Embed content from a specific #hashtag on your site. Hosting a contest or event? Share others content on your website by embedding it onto your website.
  3. Pull the RSS feed in from a specific #hashtag on Instagram into a Custom Facebook Tab.
  4. Use the same #hashtag on all of your social media sites.
  5. Use a specific #hashtag to host a social chat on a specific network.
  6. Crowdsource with #hashtags.
  7. Create a #hashtag to host a contest or promotion that your fans can easily share.
  8. Run Social Ads based off of #hashtags.
  9. Follow the social reach of your brand based off of #hashtags.
  10. Give your #hashtag a definition and meaning with a Tag Directory like http://tagdef.com
  11. Have attendees use a specific #hashtag for your webinar or during your live online training courses.

The specific URLs to do real-time searches for #hashtags on each social network:

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/{uniquehashtag}

Instagram: http://instagram.com/tags/{uniquehashtag}/feed/recent.rss

Pinterest: http://pinterest.com/search/?q={uniquehashtag}

Google: Simply go to http://google.com and type in your #hashtag

Google+: https://plus.google.com/s/%23{uniquehashtag}

Don’t be a #hashtag spammer

Be wise when choosing which #hashtags to include in your posts. 2-5 is the social norm, over that you are being annoying and a #hashtag spammer. Occasionally 6 or 7 might be ok, if you really, really must. If your entire post is #hashtags, you have just failed. Go back to the drawing board and find a way to be strategic without spamming!

Awesome story about the power of #hashtags

A month ago, I attended the #gentelmenoftheroadtour #troystopover with headliner Mumford & Sons. I had a Press Pass and was able to shoot the first 3 songs of every act of the weekend. #badass I know. The Gentlemen of the Road Tour made awesome use of #hashtags by pulling in Instagram pictures of those who used the hashtag #gentlemenoftheroad.

During Mumford & Sons singing Lover of the Light, my friend alerted me of an awesome moment happening right behind us. A couple getting engaged during the words – “But love the one you hold And I’ll be your goal To have and to hold A lover of the light”. It was so romantic and the social reporter in me went into sharing action, snapping a pic and posting it to Instagram. Less than a week later, the couple located the picture I posted and commented on it! Seriously awesomeness.

3 Steps to Move from Mommy Blogger to Business Owner

3-steps-to-move-from-mommy-blogger-to-business-ownerAfter all the passion and hard work you put into building your blog, take it to the next level — the skies the limit. The National Association for Women Business owners reports 40 percent of all privately held companies are owned by women, with a total sales generation of $1.9 trillion. Impressive, right? The following three steps can help guide you from mommy blogger to mommy business owner.

Business Plan: The Foundation of a Mommy Enterprise

A wayward entrepreneurial journey can kill your business if you’re not armed with a solid plan of action. Along with secure funding, an established business plan maps out your route from stay-at-home blogger to work-from-home entrepreneur. Crafting your business plan doesn’t have to drain your startup funds. The organization SCORE provides guidance and assistance on how to establish a solid plan from a group of professionals. SCORE experts mentor entrepreneurial newbies as their way to give back to the community.

Money: Creative Ways to Borrow & Spend

Get creative with how you borrow funds by researching other sources than the bank. The nationwide network of Women’s Business Centers (WBCs) and Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) are great starting points. The WBC and CDFI are committed to helping women-owned businesses by providing guidance, support and access to cash. Loan amounts typically don’t exceed $100,000 with the CDFIs, but even less amounts can help launch the business and lead to other funding solutions.

Since starting a business is an investment that can require hefty upfront costs, a loan may not cut it. A business credit card not only helps with the establishment of your business, but it can provide rewards you for purchases. According to the AMEX cash back credit card website, business owners can earn discounts and cash back on purchases such as gas. Because of all those errands you run between soccer practice and the grocery store, saving on gas is a good deal. Also, bartering services can cushion those ongoing expenses, such as offering to write original content in exchange for a web designer designing your website.

Business Registration: The Paperwork (sigh)

Registering your business makes it official and keeps your operations legitimate. You don’t have to battle with bales of paperwork either; just submit a few forms to government offices. You can classify your business as a sole proprietorship, which means you are the only owner. As a partnership, you share ownership with one or more people. If you want to protect your personal finances from business debts, the good ole LLC, or limited liability company, is most likely right for you. Visit the federal government’s website to apply for an EIN, or Employer Identification Number, which is your business’s version of your personal SSN. Then log on to the SBA site to register your business name with your state of residence.

How to Land More Media Interviews

What online entrepreneur doesn’t want to land more media interviews?

Utilizing the media can be one of the most effective ways to establish yourself as an expert while telling people about your brand, product, or services.

When I coach online preneurs, we create a media plan to help them maximize their presence and spread their message. This is also a top covered in The Success Academy. Today, I am going to give you a few tips on landing more media interviews.

Before getting started you will want to do some research and create a list of the media outlets, podcasts and websites you would like to start with first. Interviews don’t always have to come from the big dogs. You will have more success from targeted smaller audiences rather than large audiences that includes a small number of your target market. Interviews also don’t have to be the traditional media like television, radio, or the newspaper, make sure to check out sites that do podcasts, video interviews, or even BlogTalk Radio hosts.

There is no elevator to success. You have to take the stairs.

Your potential for success lies in your hands. You have to make it happen. Go after what you want. { Click to Tweet That! }

Now let’s get you started creating it! I’ve put together a few tips to help you be more successful in landing media interviews.

HARO – Help a Reporter Out

This is one of the first resources I used to connect with media. Everyday thousands of journalist need to hit deadlines and in order to do that they must find experts to help them on their articles. HARO (Help A Reporter Out) is a bad-ass resource that Peter Shankman created and is something you MUST check out if you want to get published as a resource! Here are some tips to be successful with HARO!

  • Read the request very carefully and follow the instructions exactly.
  • Act Fast! Make time for this email when it comes through so you can act fast in sending a reply!
  • Create a relationship. This is your chance to build a media relationship. Use your social skills and connect with them on Twitter or Facebook.
  • Only reply to queries you truly are an expert on. They are busy so don’t waste their time if you don’t know what you are talking about.

SEO – Search Engine Optimization

You may think that SEO is just for potential clients or customers to find you easier using Google but it can also increase your chances of reporters finding your website too! What? You don’t think that reporters use Google to find resources? Well you are wrong, they do! And by having your SEO dialed in, you can ensure you will be found. And your arse better make sure there is a way for them to easily reach out to you! Make sure you have a form, email address, or social media buttons to connect with you. Don’t make it hard for them.

Connect with Reporters & Producers on Social Media

As I mentioned to do with HARO out, you will want to do this with any other media resources you locate that you want to be interviewed by. Forming a relationship with them before pitching will help them recognize you and how you are an expert.

Pitch It!

You might be surprised to hear that 75% of my interviews have happened because I pitched the media! This is exactly how I landed my bad-ass interview with John Lee Dumas from Entrepreneur on Fire. John has interviewed some of the best in the online world and it was a huge honor to be interviewed by him. You can listen to our interview here. { I also had three others reach out to me for interviews after they listened to it! }

Don’t forget to display your “As Seen On” image once you land a few media interviews and guest blog posts!

Business Blogging Basics – 6 Tips to Blogging

Over the last two weeks, I have been challenging Online Prenuers to step up their marketing game by going back to the basics in the Back to Business Challenge. There is so much information and tools out there that it sometimes becomes extremely overwhelming for the average online business owner.

You own an online business as a coach, consultant, creator, or even author, you know blogging as part of your online marketing is important for your business, yet your half-assin’ it all the way.

I hear a lot of reasons and fears about blogging and why someone isn’t doing it. Blogging is one of those things that you just have to say YES, then commit to a schedule that works for you, and freaking DO IT.

“I’m not telling you it’s going to be easy – I’m telling you it’s going to be worth it.” ― Art Williams

Blogging is part of the basics to marketing your business online so that you launch your message to reach, speak and connect with your community.

Blogging for your business doesn’t have to be difficult or confusing. Keep it Simple.

Are you telling yourself that you are not “qualified” to blog? You are an expert because you know more about your niche than your potential customers do. You are their expert to help them solve their problems.

When you think about all of the benefits blogging can do for your business, there not only creates more reasons to blog but more motivation to get off yo’ arse and do it.

And just keep this in mind. There are NO RULES. Customize it to work for you.

Here are a few tips that helped me when I first started blogging over 200 posts ago!

Set a schedule that you will stick with

When I first started, I wanted to be an over-achiever and blog that freaking crazy. And it worked for a very short period of time and then I fell off the wagon. Don’t commit to something you can’t do. Start off doing it monthly or weekly, whatever you know you can seriously commit to. Announce it. By setting the schedule and announcing it to your community, it forces you to follow-through. Potential clients want to know you take care of your business, because it let’s them know you’ll take care of them. { CLICK TO TWEET THAT. }

Be Authentic. Be YOU.

Being you is the best damn thing you can do. Your spin on things is what is going to attract your future clients into your community like a giant magnet. Blogging helps them get to know you, who you are, and how you can help!

Solve a Problem

Want to know the easiest way to figure out what to blog about? Creating post that solve or give tips to help solve a problem that your potential client might be having is a great way to get you started. Make a list of problems that you know your potential client is having that you can easily solve in 300 – 1200 words. { If vlogging in under 10 minutes. }

Provide Value

I’m not telling you to give away all of your secrets but I know there are topics that you can share in blog posts that will help your community, yet not take away from your paying business. Providing major amounts of value through your blog, keeps them coming back for more.

Mix things up

Keep your community engaged in your posts by changing up the types of posts you write. Here are a few different types of posts that you create.

  • Interviews
  • Book reviews
  • Share real & raw stories
  • Product reviews
  • Tutorials
  • List Posts

Content Rules.

Blogging is content. Having content rules. Make sure to stick with topics related to your niche but also aligns with your brand messaging.

Expert tips on Leadership from Steve Jobs

LeadershipSteve Jobs was without a doubt one of the most iconic business leaders of the 21st century. He managed to win people over with his spectacular speeches, and used to say that you can succeed in business if you’re a futurist.

Control the experience

A good leader needs to take full responsibility for his customers, and that’s exactly what Apple did. The company’s team of experts analyzed everything, starting with the performance of the ARM microprocessor and ending with the experiences provided by the Apple stores. Jobs knew that nothing can be more important than the ability to seek perfection, and his personality was always in search for successful executions.

Innovation

You don’t have to be a genius in order to become an innovator. Steve Jobs focused only on the management of videos and photos when he developed the original Mac, without paying attention to music. As a result, his invention was unable to burn CDs. If you had been in his position, you would have probably upgraded the CD drive, but he didn’t think of this option. Instead, he revolutionized the music industry by creating an integrated system called the iTunes, which allowed users from all over the world to purchase, manage, share and play their favorite music without having to use CDs. A true leader is an excellent innovator. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, as you can use them later on to create perfection.

Leadership1Simplicity is everything

We can see this principle in the iPod design provided by Steve Jobs, which comes with no on/off button. The music player is powered down gradually, and turned on/off using a single button. You can imagine that this wouldn’t have been possible if Jobs hadn’t developed a very complex software system. During his golden years, he did everything he could to design minimalist devices that would set new standards in the web industry. His systems could either stand alone or be connected, in order to work together. As time went by, Steve Jobs tried to redesign the mobile phone as we knew it. He had a closer look at mobile phones produced by his competitors and noticed that navigating the address book seemed complicated. His iPhone was appreciated because it made everything simpler. In business, the key to success is simplicity.

Master the message

Steve Jobs was one of the best corporate storytellers in the world, and people enjoyed Apple product launches because they were unusual, puzzling, and artistic. Talking in front of a crowd was like teaching in front of a class, and because he was passionate he managed to wow his customers. If you can’t draw people’s attention with amazing presentations, even the greatest ideas can be overlooked.

Provide people with great experiences

The Apple store was one of best retailers in the world because its marketing team was innovative enough to draw attention. Its goal was that of creating deeper emotional connections between the products and the customers. You’ve probably seen that the Apple store doesn’t feature any cashiers; their goal is not to move boxes but to stir curiosity, allow the people to test the products, and make them want to buy.

Leadership2Sell dreams not products

Steve Jobs never looked at the people who purchased his products as random buyers. Instead, he saw them as people with ambitions, hopes, and dreams, and tried to achieve their dreams through the products he created. When asked whether he thought that people would buy Apple’s Mac, Jobs answered that many would see the act of purchasing this device as something crazy. However, crazy people are often geniuses, and this was exactly what he thought of his customers. Analyze your business strategies and establish the way you see your customers. The secret lies in your ability to release their inner geniuses. Once you’ve managed to do that, you can be sure you’ve won both their minds and hearts.

An excellent leader craves for perfection; and because perfection can’t be achieved, you can at least look for it. Your journey will bring you infinite satisfactions, both financial and ethical. We can’t deny that Steve Jobs and his Apple Company managed to change the way we access the internet, listen to music, and talk on the phone. Business people who want to be great leaders should never give up on their ideas. If you’re determined to succeed, don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Practice makes perfect remember?

Dream Big: Five Tips to Turn Your Hobby into a Business

You may have dreamed about quitting your corporate day job and making your living selling crafts on Etsy, or getting rich off that line of hipster tees you laboriously made over a span of a few weekends, but the path from hobby to business can seem mysterious. Scaling up your hobby into a business takes determination, hard work and a long tail. Fox Business notes most people ease into entrepreneurship slowly rather than jump in full time. Get your feet wet with these five tips to turn your hobby into a moneymaker.

1. Get Organized

Chances are good your small business office is your home — which can quickly become crowded with inventory and shipping materials. Dedicate a separate space to your home-based ecommerce business, then get organized. Keep extra packing and shipping materials in the basement, and store your T-shirt inventory in plastic storage bins or on hangers in the guest closet. However you organize your wares, develop a system and take time to maintain it. If you’re not organized, you’re apt to misplace needed items.

2. Upgrade Your Equipment

Before diving in, upgrade your technology. A reliable, fast Internet connection is a necessity for online businesses, so consider switching to a high-speed internet provider such as CenturyLink or whatever high-speed provider is near you to alleviate headaches caused by outages and slow speeds. Consider purchasing a label printer for easier, cheaper shipping of goods and a digital camera to take better pictures of your inventory.

3. Find a Mentor

As you work out the kinks of your new business, you may feel overwhelmed or unsure of what to do next. A mentor offers critical support in these times and can serve as a sounding board. The SCORE program connects retired businesspeople with novice business owners in need of advice, and may be an excellent place to find a mentor.

4. Learn To Scale Up

To turn your hobby into a business, you’ll need to scale up your workflow and product creation. If you screen print those T-shirts yourself, you’re limited by how much you can create in an hour or day. If you scale up and outsource to a printer, you can create hundreds of T-shirts. To pay off the up-front cost of having T-shirts printed, you’ll need to sell more. Every hobby will need to negotiate this phase to become a successful business.

5. Track Your Finances

Since business expenses are tax deductible, you’ll want to keep track of your expenses and, of course, your income. Set aside business receipts in a separate envelope, so you can find them at tax time. Track revenue to gain an understanding of how your business is doing. In slow times, experiment with a different sales strategy or tweaks to your product line to see if you can push sales.

These tips will help you get started on the path to your business. To see it through, you’ll need determination, motivation and courage. At first, you will juggle multiple roles, but if you persist, you just may be able to quit that day job.
