Have you heard of this cute little smartphone attachment called Square?
Technology is bad-ass and so is this little handy gadget that plugs into your smartphone so you can take payments from people anywhere. This tool is full of awesomeness!
With Square you receive the money in your bank account the next day with very low and competitive fees. Did I mention it was FREE to have the card reader sent to me and to set it up? It took about 5 minutes to complete set up and about another 4-5 days to receive my little handy device. Plugged it into my iPhone and that was IT!
As you grow your empire and you start traveling the world, you need to be sure that you can accept credit cards on the road.
Yes, perfect for your favorite hotdog stand vendor or landscaper but what other ways could Square be used?
- Authors can sell books at speaking engagements.
- Process payments for in-person coaching.
- Yoga instructors can take payments while away from studio.
- Artists can sell their artwork from anywhere in the world!
- Selling products at tradeshows or expos.
- Did you purchase concert tickets for all of your friends? Get reimbursed supa fast!
- Don’t forget the option to manually charge client credit cards. You can manually charge credit cards through Square’s interface. (For those of you who use PayPal, this is a great alternative and totally comparable with fees.)
Really the options are endless, just be creative!
Watch my video demonstration of how easy the process is!!
If you enter credit card numbers manually, Square costs 3.5% + 15¢ per transaction.
No monthly fees or contracts. EVER.

I am so with you, Alicia. I just got my Square about a week ago for my Android and am loving it. I got it for my jewelry business so when I’m out doing shows, I can take credit cards. It is an awesome little thing. And of course when I’m out doing my mobile media VA thing it will come in handy.
Yes! This is the perfect tool for you to use or really anyone in the biz of home and trade shows! Such a great piece of equipment!
Thanks so much for sharing! I’m thrilled to learn about Square Up. My next stop is to go to their website and get set up.
Hi Eileen! Have you received your Square yet? Let me know if you have any questions!
I got mine at Spark and Hustle but haven’t activated it. Now I will. Thanks!
Hey Beverly! Have you activated it yet? I love it!
Gosh, you’re so cute on video!! Love that you’re doing it.
I was all prepared to love Square, but then they showed how easy it is to use it for credit card fraud (see this: http://mashable.com/2011/08/05/square-security/).
Hope the Square people will do something in response to make it safer to use; nothing beats the cool/easy/right-priced factors of it. Maybe they should have created it for Blackberry, instead, which is built for biz, and offers far better security to begin with??

Hey Anastacia! Thank you very much! Video is fun when you have a cool prop to play with!
I spent some time looking into this. The article from Mashable was about using stolen credit card numbers to charge transactions with the square using audio files. This can be done without this program as well because you can manually charge credit card numbers using their program, without a swipe. Square does take pride in making sure their product is secure. I have been advised from a few that it is a secure device. You can find out more info from Square about their security here – https://squareup.com/security.

Hi,
Just saw the comment about how people can steal CC info using the square app. One thing I feel I have to mention is that every square account has a social security number attached to it and goes through a basic background check. I don’t know about you, but if somebody were to steal money with square, it would leave breadcrums the size of pillows.
Now, if somebody was using square, I would make sure to put in your email address on the square app to get a receipt.
Oh, and seeing how square did not make a register app for android. I made a point of sales app. It is called Enders POS. Its free, so have a look for it on the market.
Wow, that’s a nifty little gadget! Cool! I am excited to check it out! I would have had the opportunity to use something like that today! Thanks for sharing!
So this isn’t for android, correct?
Hi Cam! Actually they DO have an app on the Android App store (not sure if that is the correct name!) Check it out! https://squareup.com/#!square Let me know what you think once you get it and start using it! xo, alicia
